You may be surprised at how many bicycle types are available in the market now - mountain bikes, traditional bicycles, folding bicycles, road bikes, etc. Each type achieves different goals and serves different interests. Depending on your needs and focus, you can definitely choose a bike that is right for you.

1. Traditional or the cruiser type. These types are built for comfort but they can be very pricey. Weighing 35-50 pounds these Cadillac of bicycles are really heavy. Its front-suspension forks, gears, wide tires, spring suspension seats and step-through design all adds to its weight. It has heavy tubular frames which are built for stability. Riding these will not strain your neck and back, but you can't be too fast as they are not built for speed.

2. Hybrid bicycles. They are called such because they are a cross between a mountain bike and a road bicycle. A lot of people consider them as the best all-around bike because they combine the best features of a mountain and road bike. They can go really fast yet can be used in light trails. Their frames are commonly made of carbon fiber or aluminum alloy that enables these types of bike to be lightweight despite its sturdy and durable features. If you're looking for a bike that you can use in the city yet comfortable in long rides in the county and still rad at off roads, then this is the one for you.

3. Racing or road bike. Road bicycles are serious stuff and thus, cannot be used by beginners. They are made of ultra-light composite fibers and are definitely built for speed. Their tires are very thin which enable it to go very fast. They have no frills, reflectors, kickstands or fenders. These accessories add weight and are thus not included. This type of bike can be pricey too but if you scout online, you can find a lot of discount road bikes that can suit your taste. These discount road bicycles are manufactured with lightweight steel and are also built for speed just like their expensive counterparts. Its affordable price (it being discounted) does not necessarily sacrifice quality with price and purchasing one discount road bike can definitely give you an edge if you are serious about your biking career.

Biking is a good option for a healthy lifestyle. Whether you buy Cruiser bikes, hybrids or discount road bikes, you have to always consider the when, where and how you will use your bike.
